Air Conditioning Installation & Repair

What are my cooling options? Lower Mainland homes have three practical cooling paths: add central air conditioning to an existing ducted furnace, install ductless mini-splits where there are no ducts, or install a heat pump that cools in summer and heats in winter. Which one fits — and what size — comes down to a heat gain calculation for your specific rooms, glazing and orientation. Since the 2021 heat dome, we treat cooling as essential equipment, and we size it for real Fraser Valley summer temperatures, not coastal averages.

Central A/C on your existing furnace

If your home has a ducted furnace, adding a condenser and coil is usually the most economical route to whole-home cooling. Many newer homes in Surrey, Langley and Maple Ridge are 'A/C-ready' with the rough-in already in place — we verify the blower and calculated load first so the added cooling actually performs, then complete the refrigerant, condensate and electrical work as one job.

Ductless for condos and character homes

Ductless mini-splits cool (and heat) without ductwork — the practical solution for Vancouver character houses, basement suites and strata condos. For stratas, we provide the sound ratings, placement drawings and load documentation approval committees ask for.

Repair and diagnostics, by the numbers

A/C not keeping up? We diagnose with instruments: temperature split, superheat and subcooling, capacitor and airflow testing. If refrigerant is low we find the leak rather than topping up annually — and if the real problem is sizing, we'll show you the load numbers instead of selling another service call.

Maintenance that protects the compressor

Annual spring service — coil cleaning, charge verification, electrical testing, condensate clearing — is what keeps efficiency high and protects the compressor, the most expensive component in the system. Ask about scheduled maintenance when you book.

Common Questions

FAQ

How big an air conditioner do I need?
Whatever the heat gain calculation says — not a tons-per-square-foot guess. Room count, glazing, orientation and local design temperature all change the answer; oversized systems short-cycle and dehumidify poorly, undersized ones never catch up.
Can you install A/C in a condo?
Usually yes, with strata approval. Ductless systems are the standard route; we supply the documentation stratas require and handle the complete installation including electrical.
Why is my A/C running but not cooling?
Most often a dirty filter, blocked condenser coil, refrigerant leak or failing capacitor. See our troubleshooting guide, and if ice appears on the lines, switch the system off before calling.
